BlogBlog of NickRon Dec. 28 2006 Back at work after a short break - finished Halo 2 and Splinter Cell Double Agent01:07 pm Back at work as deadline looms for the PCB system I am finishing off.
Whilst I've been off for a few days, I played Splinter Cell Double Agent. I really loved the previous game, Chaos Theory and this was just as good. Gameplay is good, but not excellent, but backed up by a great storyline and cinematics that make you really feel you are playing part of the story, I really enjoyed playing this. Also I finished off Halo 2, which was started off good, then levels were hit and miss to how well the were designed/played, some were frustrating and the last 2 or 3 levels I really only played to kill spare time I had. on Dec. 18 2006 Programming Downloads - K-LOC Calculator03:26 pm I was looking for a way of counting the lines of code within my visual studio projects, a colleague spotted this today and thought of me, which is nice:
K-LOC Calculator on Dec. 4 2006 Yahoo Mail going spam downhill.12:59 pm I've used Yahoo Mail since 2002, was my main mail until I switched to G mail earlier this year.
I have forwarded all my mail to both accounts, but over the past few months Yahoos Spam filter seems to be having problems, to the point where I had 18 spam emails over last weekend and not a single one in the spam box, that's 100% misses. Also the fact that some spam is coming from the same source and I have repeatedly reported as spam and it still comes through as normal mail, it masquerades as a free-by website, but links to a premium porn site. Conversely I tend to only get 1 email every 2 weeks from G mail that is spam in my inbox and not had a false positive yet. This is truly frustrating, Yahoo themselves are no help, saying they are not aware of any problems with the spam filter, so I can only assume that they will not be able to fix this issue; Which means I am going to have to dump Yahoo as my secondary mail service and find another service to replace it with. Update 18th Dec I have just logged into my Y! Mail account and I had 7 spam emails, all in my inbox (not in my spam folder) - 3 of which are from a source which I marked as spam last time I checked when I posted the original message (like I do every time). on Dec. 12 2006 Embarking on an Extreme programming project04:18 pm I have been tasked with developing a new web based system and feel that extreme programming will be appropriate, it will require tweaking to fit in with our current work flow system (story cards stored as components for example), paired programming, will not be side by side, but still cooperative. We already work iteratively, and our customers are within the same organisation so will be on hand.
The only issue I have at the moment is that usability and UI (user interface) are high priority and I am not sure how the design/development will fit in with the programming side of things. I am just reading up and formulating a plan of action and will document it when I'm done. on Nov. 29 2006 Knife Culture in Leeds02:33 pm Saw this on TV the other night.

http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23945 on Nov. 13 2006 First Thai Boxing class tonight10:14 pm Had my first class tonight.
We did pad work all night, low round houses, front push kicks, jabs, hooks and cuts. Kicks I have kept up with as a warm up before FMA classes (I have done TKD and generic kickboxing before), but punches took a while to come back as long time since I've worn gloves. We worked some combos, 2 jabs and front kick, also right hook, right back hand and a left hook, emphasis on working the hips and feet for those who understood the basic punches, training was good as I got partnered with someone who boxed, who helped me with my punches (and I helped him with him getting his hips turing for the round houses). My wrists are really aching, as used to open hand punches, long time since I've punched with gloves and took a while to get into the swing and still jarred my wrist every now and again, theres no pain now, just stiffness, but I am weary of using wrist supports as I want to strengthen them. Dunno how far advanced the class will get as its only a Fitness First gym (Ie not an ma or boxing gym), but for now I'm learning a lot and getting a great workout. The guy knows his stuff has done some FMA before (even had a stick with him), did'nt get chance to ask who it was, but he learnt FMA along-side his Thai Boxing. on Nov. 8 2006 Hamster wheel gone wrong !07:48 pm on Nov. 7 2006 Silktide sitescore09:36 pm silktide sitescore is a useful tool that can quickly point you in the direction of correct mistakes with your website as well as giving your a score for bragging rights.
Considering my site is 100% standard YACS it scores quite well: This tool has pointed me to a few minor errors. PBC System02:50 pm This is a Practice Based Commissoning system that i've been developing. Its my first effort with .net 2 and Visual Studio 2005 (which crashes or errors once a day approx).
Taken a lot of work to get this far and its not finished yet, but its looking good and had positive feedback from the Presentation last Friday.
